I am sure we have all subconsciously thought about the amount of calories in the beer a drink; consequently, marketers for brewing companies (e.g. Budweiser, Miller Genuine Draft) tailor their marketing campaign to make sure we drink a “refreshing” beer that is light in calories and great on “taste.” Their commercials are funny, their promotions – awesome. But is it really worth sacrificing taste for quantity? The question lies in your purpose.
My rule of thumb: drink light beer to save on calories if you are planning on drinking a lot; drink a premium beer to enjoy a nice, leisurely day.

Did you know it is actually healthy to drink a beer – especially for runners? According to the Technical University of München, runners who drink a liter to a liter and a half of non-alcoholic beer a day while training for a marathon showed 3.25-fold lower incidence of upper respiratory tract infections and indicated an overall better immune system. A chemical substance in beer called polyphenols “suppress viral replication” and “influence the innate immune system positively.”
Now I know what you’re saying, “What about ‘alcoholic’ beer?” Don’t worry, alcoholic beer has plenty polyphenols too; however, the researchers didn’t test alcoholic beer and they don’t recommend it just yet.

I often drink cider but as it is only 1 or 2 500ml [17OZ] bottles per week I don't worry about the calories as I'll burn them off easily enough.
