Is Sex Really a Good Workout?

I have read a lot of articles related to this issue recently and what I have concluded is that yes, it is.  There is a big HOWEVER though; this big however stems from what kind of sex you have – and how long it lasts!  So there are many factors that are involved.

If you are looking to burn 100-200 calories per half hour, this is what you’ll have to do:

What is your purpose? Part 3

I hope all of you that have been following along will really appreciate this conclusion.  Ben Comen has cerebral palsy, but that doesn't keep him from running.  You can tell Ben, 18 years old at the time of this video, runs for a reason.

But as you watch this final video, ask yourself why he runs.  What is his purpose?  What can you take away from this to make yourself better?  Someone else?

What is your purpose? Part 2

Meet Dick and Rick Hoyt:

Rick, the son, was born as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy as a result of oxygen deprivation at birth.  Dick, the father, was advised to institutionalize his son because he was told there was no chance for his son to recover.  He didn't.

Here is their story:

If you wish to watch a video montage of their story, here is one:

What is your purpose? Part 1

This is a story about a guy named Ben.  Over weight.  Depressed.  Even loss a relationship because of it.  One day, he got inspired to do life and ran.  He went on a 120-pound journey and created a video montage of his weight loss and found a purpose -- to be happy.

This is the reason why I created this blog.  Ben found inspiration to run.  He wanted to get out of depression; he wanted to feel comfortable in his body.  He found his purpose.

Let's find our purpose to run -- and run it together.

Thank you for visiting this site.  If you haven't done it already, please follow my blog.  I want to keep you inspired and encouraged.

1/2 Marathon Training Schedule -- Released

This is a 12-week training schedule that I believe is to be the best.  This training regiment was created by Hal Higdon, who is a long time article contributor to Runner's World and a competitor who has won four World Masters Championships along with running eight times in the Olympic Trials.

Yes, there are plenty of training schedules out there, and I could probably come up with my own for you, but I don't see the need for another one -- especially if this is your first or second time running a 1/2.  What I like about Higdon's schedule is that:

-  It is a flexible schedule
-  You can vary your workouts (he incorporates strength and cross training so training doesn't become mundane -- which is a great change of pace)
-  Highlights the importance of streching (try something along the lines of yoga.  For the guys, yeah -- it's not really manly, but I guarantee your body will feel re-energized

Currently there are 10 weeks left unti the Columbus Marathon (it might differ for people not running in the C-bus Marathon) so we will have to choose to cut two weeks.  My recommendation is Week 6 & 9 because, although it is nice to practice for a 1/2 by running a 5-k or 10-k, it isn't necessary.

To view and print this schedule, click here.  If you feel more experienced you can try several other plans he has.  To view those, I have a link in the right column in the "Marathon Registration & Training Schedule" box.

Take the challenge now -- and you'll find your purpose to run soon enough.

NRR: Close Encounters of the Human Kind

I wrote this in response to the numerous people asking me what Lasik eye surgery was like going through the procedure.  I will say this:  this story is a bit "out of this world," but it was, in all honesty, a part of what I felt going through it.  And NRR stands for Not Running Related; however, I can't wait to be running soon with this 20/15 vision!

Enjoy.

PRIZE GIVEAWAY!

Friday can't come soon enough -- and I am having laser eye surgery tomorrow (Thursday) so I might be out of commission for a day or two.  So I have decided to do this a bit earlier.

Here's the deal:  The first 15 people that join this site where it says "Purpose Runners" (family excluded) will have a chance to win a brand new Arm Pocket Wallet!  One lucky winner will have it delivered to their home via snail mail. If you are from out the the United States -- don't worry; I will ship it anywhere in the world.  It is useful (as you can tell my the picture it's not too conspicuous) to hold money, IDs, Credit/Debit cards, and most importantly a key to your house or car.

Thank you for following this site and making it a part of your daily read.  I am sure you guys will enjoy the next 10 weeks.  Good Luck!

Disclaimer:  If by some miracle I have more than 15 followers by Thursday @9pm EST, I will make the cutoff then.  I should have my eyesight back and be awake from the long nap I am supposed to have by then.  Also, the drawing will be out of a hat and on camera which will be posted for the "Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner" article.

Run Forrest, Run!

It doesn’t matter whether you are a 50-time marathon runner or someone who hasn’t set foot in a running shoe. Nor does it matter if you have a spare tire attached to your waist or not, if you’re healthy or not healthy, or lazy or active – this blog is for you to get and stay motivated, learn how to tackle the issues like hitting the runner’s wall and food selection (food portion and dietary solutions), but most of all, to just run and enjoy it!

We all remember the movie “Forrest Gump” where Forrest always to risks and sought adventure.  He fought in Vietnam (not recommended), owned a shrimp company, became a ping-pong champion, but what stuck out in my mind most notably was him running from coast-to-coast all because he “felt like running.” First thing that comes to my mind is, “What!? Are you cray!?” and then I have to pull myself out of the television screen and realize this is just fictional. But just because it is fictional, why can’t we just...run? We are so caught up in the complacency of life never to challenge ourselves and – live. Let’s cliché the cliché and “take life by the horns.”

And people have done this.  They have found a purpose, took a challenge -- and changed their lives.  With this journey you take, you will meet some of these people.

I challenge everyone who reads this to just start running.  Run for your health, for someone else, for stress relief, for happiness, to enjoy life, or for yourself.

My hope is that you sign up for the 2011 NATIONWIDE INSURANCE COLUMBUS MARATHON.  Okay, don’t let the word “marathon” scare you off.  I myself am training for the half marathon (yes, you can run a half marathon too).  The link to sign up is on the right side of my homepage along with a countdown to the marathon itself.  If you are not a Columbusite, stay connected to this site so we as a community can help you take a challenge that is daring!

My pledge to everyone that follows me is to update my blog constantly with informative, motivational, and entertaining posts including parodies, videos, and interactive polls and gifts.

Be ready to visit on Friday because there will be a prize and incentive for people to follow.  I just hope the winner lives in America because if not – I will have to pony up the money for shipping & handling!

Make sure to join this site to be eligible for the prize!
